Who are we and what do we do?
We meet weekly at the Ridgewood. A small, friendly group of like minded people of all ages and walks of life.We welcome new members of any ability who enjoy arts and crafts. The pottery and art/craft elements of the group meet independently, and you are welcome to come to one or both of them.

Arts & Crafts
The group currently meets on a Monday evening between 7 and 9pm.
Each of us brings along our own art or craft to work on each week. Its an opportunity to exchange ideas, get help with a project you are stuck on, learn new skills, or just natter and put the world to rights. Occasionally someone will volunteer to show the group something, the most recent being papier mache bowls.

Pottery
The pottery part of the group meets on Tuesdays and Wednesdays at 7.30pm.
We have a fully equipped pottery studio on the ground floor at Ridgewood. Potters work on independent projects with guidance from Keith if needed.

Our History
In 1967 (approx) Brian Bull and Frank Abbot persuaded the council to rent us a derelict cow barn at Thorns Farm. This with some re-building was transformed into an art studio which became very popular.
In 1977 (again approx) the Art society had to move from Thorns Farm due to the imminent demolition of the barn. The council let us move into the Ridgewood which again was in poor condition. With much hard work from our members we turned two of the upper rooms into painting studio and the old kitchen on the ground floor into a working pottery and we've been there ever since! You can read/see more about our activities over the years in our Exhibition and Newspaper archives. |
